About Learning Links International CIC

The main projects and activities being undertaken by the LLI Team in 2017/19 are:

From Sugar to Sheep - working with Dr Chris Evans from University of South Wales undertaking community research into the story of the production of fabric for use in the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade.

We are also active in the development of the Jamaica Wales Alliance   http://www.jamaicawalesalliance.com - working with Rotary International on a project to refurbish schools in the community of Pennants in Clarendon Jamaica, with support from Bangor City Council

Australia Links is a new area of work - working with organisations in Beaumaris in Victoria and Beaumaris in Wales on joint projects.

We have been supporting the Irie Pesda Festival in partnership with the North Wales Jamaica Society, Neuadd Ogwen, as part of North Wales Black History Month.

We are also involved in community engagement through poetry with Yasus Afari and other poets in North Wales. Yasus has volunteered to be our Poet in Residence for Black History Month most years since 2008  http://www.yasusafarionline.com

We continue to support for Race Council Cymru's “Black Wales, Our Wales” project http://www.spanglefish.com/BlackWalesOurWales and support Black History Cymru 365.

We also support “Celebrate” developing and piloting the “Fair and Friendly” approach which we started in in Bangor, funded by Awards for All.

We still have plans to further work on JAMRY, Wales Jamaica Poetry Links, led by Welsh experimental poet Dr Rhys Trimble and Jamaican poets Yasus Afari, and supported by the Welsh National Poet, Ifor ap Glyn and Jamaica’s Poet Lauret, Prof Mervyn Morris. http://www.spanglefish.com/jamry
